Youth Advisory Council

What is YAC

The Youth Advisory Council is a locally based organization in which students become leaders and Grantmakers to better their community by providing support and educational needs to the youth in the area that they serve.

What We Do

Students who are a part of YAC meet with others to make decisions, advise, or act to improve the schools and communities they serve. To do so, they fundraise, decide on grants, and communicate ideas to give the resources for support.

How to Join

Students in grades 8th - 12th grades are eligible to join. For more information, contact YAC advisor Angela Crall at acrall@charltonhestonacademy.com

YACers in the News

Seven YAC members and two advisors spent three days at Central Michigan University for the Youth Grantmakers Summer Leadership Conference to connect with other YACs from all over Michigan. The conference was facilitated by the Council of Michigan Foundations (CMF). The YACers developed their leadership skills, network with other students, and learned more about cultivating a strong YAC to maximize community impact. They had a blast working in teams for the campus-wide Amazing Race on Saturday and attending a beach-themed dance that night! During the student sessions, YAC Coordinator Echo Odorico and YAC Advisor Erica Luck attended learning & networking sessions just for advisors. Everyone is excited to implement what they learned when YAC starts again in the fall.
