Community Volunteers to Beautify School Grounds

Community members in St. Helen have been working together to clean up around the Charlton Heston Academy school building (formerly St. Helen Elementary). Pictured above (l-r) is Bryann Gentz, Allison Shunk, Kayla Jarosz, Kathy Shunk, Tony Hoffman, and Lois Hoffman who spent the day last Tuesday trimming trees, replacing missing brick pavers, and cleaning out the front flower bed. Not pictured are Bev VanMeter and Kathy VanLuven who spent time a week ago cleaning out the flower bed near the street and planting flowers. Also missing is Arnie Sutphin and Rich White who spent nine hours mowing the grounds. John and Pat Maliskey donated all of the flowers for the clean-up as well as brought in some compost. “This is what makes St. Helen special” said Jennifer Jarosz, president of the Charlton Heston Academy Board. “The people here support the school and the community and are ready to step up and take charge for the greater good”.
